HPO HP:0007018 Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder "Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) manifests at age 2-3 years or by first grade at the latest. The main symptoms are distractibility, impulsivity, hyperactivity, and often trouble organizing tasks and projects, difficulty going to sleep, and social problems from being aggressive, loud, or impatient." [HPO:curators] — HP:0000736, HP:0000752
HPO HP:0001371 Flexion contracture "A flexion contracture is a bent (flexed) joint that cannot be straightened actively or passively. It is thus a chronic loss of joint motion due to structural changes in muscle, tendons, ligaments, or skin that prevents normal movement of joints." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0003549, HP:0011729, HP:0011805, HP:0100261
HPO HP:0000407 Sensorineural hearing impairment "A type of hearing impairment in one or both ears related to an abnormal functionality of the cochlear nerve." [HPO:probinson] Hearing loss caused by damage or dysfunction of the auditory nerve (cranial nerve VIII, also known as the cochlear nerve). HP:0000365, HP:0011389
HPO HP:0000871 Panhypopituitarism "A pituitary functional deficit affecting all the anterior pituitary hormones (growth hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, and prolactin)." [HPO:probinson, PMID:12466332] — HP:0000830
HPO HP:0000601 Hypotelorism "Interpupillary distance less than 2 SD below the mean (alternatively, the appearance of an decreased interpupillary distance or closely spaced eyes)." [HPO:probinson, PMID:19125427] — HP:0100886
HPO HP:0045005 Neural tube defect "A neural tube defect arises when the neural tube, the embryonic precursor of the brain and spinal cord, fails to close during neurulation. The cranial region (anencephaly) or the low spine (open spina bifida; myelomeningocele) are most commonly affected although, in the severe NTD craniorachischisis, almost the entire neural tube remains open, from midbrain to low spine." [HPO:probinson, PMID:19808787] — HP:0410043
HPO HP:0000739 Anxiety "Intense feelings of nervousness, tenseness, or panic, often in reaction to interpersonal stresses; worry about the negative effects of past unpleasant experiences and future negative possibilities; feeling fearful, apprehensive, or threatened by uncertainty; fears of falling apart or losing control." [HPO:probinson, PMID:23902698] — HP:0100852
HPO HP:0000238 Hydrocephalus "Hydrocephalus is an active distension of the ventricular system of the brain resulting from inadequate passage of CSF from its point of production within the cerebral ventricles to its point of absorption into the systemic circulation." [HPO:probinson, PMID:18211712, PMID:19410151] Hydrocephalus results from an imbalance between the rate of production of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), mainly in the choroid plexus, and its reabsorption in the subarchnoid space over brain and spinal cord. HP:0002118, HP:0002921
HPO HP:0001627 Abnormal heart morphology "Any structural anomaly of the heart." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0030680
HPO HP:0010654 Aplasia of the falx cerebri "A developmental defect characterized by aplasia of the Falx cerebri." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0010653
HPO HP:0031860 Abnormal heart rate variability "Any abnormality in the variability of the time interval between successive heartbeats." [PMID:8598068] — HP:0011675
HPO HP:0001274 Agenesis of corpus callosum "Absence of the corpus callosum as a result of the failure of the corpus callosum to develop, which can be the result of a failure in any one of the multiple steps of callosal development including cellular proliferation and migration, axonal growth or glial patterning at the midline." [HPO:curators] — HP:0007370
HPO HP:0001257 Spasticity "A motor disorder characterized by a velocity-dependent increase in tonic stretch reflexes with increased muscle tone, exaggerated (hyperexcitable) tendon reflexes." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0001276, HP:0002493
HPO HP:0002451 Limb dystonia "A type of dystonia (abnormally increased muscular tone causing fixed abnormal postures) that affects muscles of the limbs." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0001332
HPO HP:0009914 Cyclopia "Cyclopia is a congenital abnormality in which there is only one eye. That eye is centrally placed in the area normally occupied by the root of the nose." [DDD:ncarter] — HP:0100886
HPO HP:0000824 Decreased response to growth hormone stimulation test "Insufficient responses to growth hormone (GH) provocation tests. GH deficiency is defined as a serum peak GH concentration less than 10 ng/mL on provocation with a combination of at least two separate stimulation tests." [HPO:probinson, PMID:25914878] GH stimulation tests are performed with various stimuli, such as insulin, L-dopa, arginine, and growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). The test using insulin as a stimulus is classically recommended, but this test has potential risks such as hypoglycemia. The effects of growth hormone are mediated almost exclusively by insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1), which is produced primarily in the liver. Growth hormone deficiency refers to inadequate levels of GH (and therefore IGF-1), resulting in growth retardation in children and metabolic disturbances in adults. HP:0000830, HP:0032367
HPO HP:0002270 Abnormality of the autonomic nervous system "An abnormality of the autonomic nervous system." [HPO:probinson] The autonomic nervous system is the part of the peripheral nervous system that controls visceral functions such as heart rate and digestion and functions largely below the level of consciousness. HP:0410008
HPO HP:0009062 Infantile axial hypotonia "Muscular hypotonia (abnormally low muscle tone) affecting the musculature of the trunk and with onset in infancy." [HPO:curators] — HP:0008936, HP:0008947
HPO HP:0002020 Gastroesophageal reflux "A condition in which the stomach contents leak backwards from the stomach into the esophagus through the lower esophageal sphincter." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0025270
HPO HP:0001344 Absent speech "Complete lack of development of speech and language abilities." [HPO:probinson] This term should not be used in very young children. HP:0000750
HPO HP:0007301 Oromotor apraxia — — HP:0002186
HPO HP:0000218 High palate "Height of the palate more than 2 SD above the mean (objective) or palatal height at the level of the first permanent molar more than twice the height of the teeth (subjective)." [PMID:19125428] The measuring device for this assessment is described in (Hall JG, Froster-Iskenius UG, Allanson JE, Gripp K, Slavotinek A. 2006. Handbook of Normal Physical Measurements. 2nd edition. Oxford Medical, publishers). A high palate is often associated with a narrow palate. However, a narrow palate can easily give a false appearance of a high palate. Height and width of the palate should be assessed and coded separately. We do not recommend the subjective determination because this term can be overused and\napplied inaccurately. HP:0000174
HPO HP:0005968 Temperature instability "Disordered thermoregulation characterized by an impaired ability to maintain a balance between heat production and heat loss, with resulting instability of body temperature." [HPO:curators] — HP:0004370
HPO HP:0001508 Failure to thrive "Failure to thrive (FTT) refers to a child whose physical growth is substantially below the norm." [HPO:probinson] Although there is no clear consensus on the exact definition of FTT, it is usually diagnoses in a child growing below the 3rd percentile or in a child whose decreased growth has cross two major growth percentiles (for example, from above the 75th percentile to below the 25th percentile). HP:0004325
HPO HP:0012718 Morphological abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract "Abnormal structure of the gastrointestinal tract." [HPO:probinson] — HP:0011024, HP:0025033
